The spiritual disciplines, is a subject that transcends all times, and that it is necessary to reconsider it time after time. Dr. Donald S. Whitney, has been one of those voices that has brought us to light, how important this topic is. His book "Spiritual Disciplines for the Christian Life" has set a precedent for thousands of Christians around the world.

The book presented by Delaney & Duke, entitled "The Spirit of Holiness: Reflections on Spiritual Formation", presents a collection of essays in honor of Dr. Whitney, the issues addressed in this book could be presented in two parts: essays in which characters from the history of Christianity and their relationship with spiritual disciplines are shown, the second part, are essays in which contemporary authors such as Joel Beeke, show us the importance of spiritual disciplines.

This is a book that openly invites us to consider spiritual disciplines for the growth of our Christian life. All the essays are very good, but personally two of them caught my attention: Thomas Manton on meditation written by Stephen Yuille, and rescued by the theology of R. Albert Mohler Jr.

Spiritual disciplines give meaning and shape to our Christian life.
