What the early christians thought about poverty or wealth?

It is exciting to know the thoughts of the early christians about the church, the Scriptures, and life itself.

Fortress Press has published a series entitled "Ad Fontes: Early Christian Sources" with the purpose that the reader knows the characters and writings that reflect the thought and circumstances of the early christians.

The series "Ad Fontes" is composed of the following volumes: Church and Empire, Biblical Interpretation in the Early Church, Understandings of the Church and the last published volume is Wealth and Poverty in Early Christianity.

"Wealth and Poverty in Early Christianity" is composed by 14 chapters, in which various writings of early Christianity are presented. We find written from The Shepherd of Hermas, Basil the Great, Augustine of Hippo, and more. All related to wealth and poverty.

In the introduction of the book (of necessary reading) is presented the Greco-Roman context in the New Testament, a very important aspect to understand the social and economic situation of the early christians. In addition to this, the introduction offer a brief biography of the characters cited in the book such as Tertullian, Lactantius, Basil the Great. In order to know the thought of the early christians.

I consider it a challenging book, because it leads us to know what the early Christians thought about poverty and wealth. In each text, we see how the thinking of early Christians is shaped by the Scriptures in view of social circumstances. I enjoyed the writing of Augustine of Hippo.

This is a book that should be part of our resources to learn more about early christianity.
